GIBRALTAR

Round the Rock Marathon – Gibraltar: on Wednesday, 13.11.2024. Start at 09:00. The sun will rise on the marathon morning at 07:57 and the sunset is 18:36.

Race Office: Distribution of BIB numbers on Tuesday 12.11 from 17:00 to 19:00 at Hotel Ohtels Campo De Gibraltar (Spain side) or on the race morning from 08:30 at Bayside Sports Complex (at Bayside Road) before the start. Bayside Sports Complex will offer us (free of charge) changing facilities, locker, access to shower and toilet. We can also keep our drinks there.

Start: Bayside Sports Complex at 09:00

Route: The marathon will be a 2 lap route. One laps is about 22.19km but it will be checked before the race. We start from Bayside Sports Complex that is very near the airport. The first sightseeing is Gibraltar Airport where we run cross a runway all the way to Spanish border. Be aware that during our run the runaway will be closed for landing and departure for a while. There is Brittish Airways flight arriving and leaving around 11:00-11:45, EasyJet + BA at 14:00-14:50. From there we run through the Airport building along the Kingway, On the way You will see the entrance of the new tunnel, scenic shot of the rock before You enter Gibraltar Easter Beach.

When You come to Kingway and Devils Tower Rd junction turn left and follow the sea cost all the way until You reach the tunnel. Do not enter the tunnel. To here it is +5km. Turn back and follow the same way to the start. From Bayside Sports Complex we continue on the west seaside route following the cycling routes – Watersport Road – Circle – Europa Ave – Circle – Circle – Queens way etc. You will see Wellington Front on Your left. Wellington Front is a fortification built in 1840 on a site established by the Spanish in 1618. At the end of Queens Way You come to a circle with a big anchor and gates “Ragged Staff Gates”. Enter the gates and run uphill to next circle and continue to Cable Car direction. Soon after Cable Car You reach Botanical Garden Park. Take a loop in the park and enjoy.

After Botanical Garden simply keep following the main streets along the sea cost , Rosia Road (run south). Your turning point is at the Lighthouse (white/red). Turn back the same way You came and when You reach the Start again You have done 22km so a bit less than one more loop to go.

SAN MARINO

Rio San Marino Marathon: on Saturday, 16.11.2024. The sun will rise on the marathon morning at 07:06 and the sunset is 16:42.

Race Office: Due to logistical challenges (many runners have late arrival from Bologna) the BIB numbers will be shared before the start or about 22:00 at Hotel Britannica. Most of the runners have already ”checked-in” earlier and we run with same BIB numbers during the tour. Race office at Hotel Britannia Rimini Marina centro, Via Parisa 90, 47921 Rimini, Italy.

Start: Parking area at Bar Restaurant Italo (Via Fabrizio da Montebello, 6-24, 47892 Gualdicciolo) at 08:00 and 11:00 (or can be 10:00 because of sun set at 16:42). If the weather is bad at the early start, runners may want to carry a torch for the opening lap.

I and Rich are trying to offer transportation to marathon start to and back from Rimini. For this a polling is on-going in whatsup. We are only 17 runners so please vote.

Route: The marathon route is 6km outside from City centre of San Marino or 21km from Rimini/Race Office. Streets in San Marino are very narrow and therefore the marathon route is chosen with ”safety first” in mind. All runners must feel safe and the route is one of most flat routes in the country.

Our marathon route is an 8,23-km out-and-back “trail” near Acquaviva so it will be a 5 lap run. (see pictures below what I mean with “trail”). Generally considered a moderate route. The first part of the trail, about 3.7km is slight upstream from the start but then downhill. The route is well-maintained and wide path that runs alongside the river, the slope is minimal and is accessible to all. There are several points on the route from which the river bed is accessed. Beautiful landscapes on the route. The incline for each lap is only 76 meters. The route is a mixture of Hiking Path: 6,4km, Path: 200m, Road: 1.7km and State Road some few hundred meters.

“Safety first”. No cars, only bikes. Picture Ne 3 is the river bottom and pic 5 is a bridge.
